History of the Jumeirah neighborhood in Dubai

The Jumeirah neighborhood was originally a small settlement where the locals fished for fish and pearls. However, in the late 1960s everything changed when oil was discovered in Dubai, production began and petrodollars flowed into the emirate.

The first properties on the Jumeirah coast belonged to the Sheikh and his family, and soon other wealthy citizens from the crowded neighborhoods of Bur Dubai and Deira began to move to the area. Then migrants began to arrive on Jumeirah.

Over time, Jumeirah underwent significant changes and reached a new level of development. Roads were built in the area, a recreational park was laid out along the coast, shopping malls, restaurants and cafes were opened. However, at that time there was only one hotel in the area. In 1995, it was demolished and replaced by an impressive wave-shaped hotel, the Jumeirah Beach Hotel. This was the beginning of the boom of grand hotels in Dubai.

Jumeirah District Infrastructure

The Jumeirah district covers an area of 25 kilometers along the Gulf Coast and extends inland for 1-1.5 kilometers. Officially, it consists of three parts: Jumeirah 1 in the east, Jumeirah 2 in the center and Jumeirah 3 in the west. However, Jumeirah is actually referred to as all the neighborhoods from Jebel Ali to Bur Dubai, including Al Bada, Al Manara, Al Safa, Satwa, Al Wasl, Trade Centre, Umm Suqeim. The southern boundary of the district runs along one of the city's important thoroughfares, the Sheikh Zayed Highway, but due to ongoing development, the area continues further afield. As a result of the fashion for the Jumeirah brand, residential complexes with a similar name began to appear quite far from the coast, such as Jumeirah Heights, Jumeirah Lake Towers, Jumeirah Village, Jumeirah Islands, Jumeirah Golf Estate. In the Jumeirah area there are hotels of the Jumeirah group, which bear the same name and are located all over the world. From other neighborhoods to Jumeirah you can easily get to the main road of Dubai - Sheikh Zayed Road. Along this road runs the red line of the unmanned Dubai Metro, on which the Jumeirah Metro station is located. In addition, tour buses and public transportation buses No. 8 and 81 run through the area. Dubai International Airport can be reached in 30-60 minutes. The Jumeirah region continues to expand mainly to the southwest while gaining new neighborhoods on the sea side.
